       Pete's review

The restaurant had been visited by many of the Leicester members both in its former life as a Chinese and more recently as the Dipali. A little Spartan inside due to the plain painted walls, but overall the restaurant was very clean and not noisy at all. Of particular note was the fact we were seated at a round table, meaning that we could all talk to each other without difficulty. The table was well laid out and the seating was very comfortable. Rather than pick individual choices from the extensive menu
we decided to negotiate a fixed price for starters and a selection of main courses.

We rather disappointed with only 1 popadom each but the starters more than made up for it with onion bhaji, tandoori chicken and sheekh kebab. The main courses were served in the standard steel karai and there was plenty of it. The chicken and lamb dishes although tasty were a little 'samey' as though the chef had used a standard sauce for both dishes, but the vegetable dishes (vegetable and a potato curry) were excellent. A good selection of nans (peshwari, garlic and keema) accompanied the meal and the waiters were  attentive throughout. At the end all the food was eaten and the manager even asked if we would like some more. Modesty prevents me saying who asked  for some extra!

When we presented the manager with his 4 chili rating he seemed a little non-plussed at the beginning but soon became very interested when he realised we were genuine Indian food and asked to be told when the site wasupdated.

One observation was the gift of a free bottle of champagne to a couple celebrating their engagement and the manager said this was normal practice for the restaurant.

Overall an excellent restaurant for a quiet meal or for those who enjoy Indian food.

  • M1CurryClub detailed rating

Ease of parking 5 - Plenty of local car parks

Ease to locating 3 - Could do with a bigger sign outside

Extent of menu 4 - Above average menu and very extensive

Quality of food 4 - All food served was of a good standard

Taste 3.5 - A little let down by the meat dishes appearing to be in the same sort of sauce, but vegetable curries were good

Speed of service 4 - very good

Any special beers 3 - Standard offerings

Value for money 3.5 - I would certainly return and try the offering from the standard menu.

Environment 3 - Plain, painted walls, but table setting was better than normal, very quiet and none of the usual crowd when the pubs closed

Waiters 4 - Very attentive

Manager 5
- Soon warmed to us after he realised we were genuine
